Venture capitalist usually use the associated risk to a start-up as a means of leverage to dilute the entrepreneur, added to this the lack of track record and industry knowledge means that invariably the start-up or small—medium business does not get the sort of costs and service that we can bring into the equation.
As well as offering our experience, contacts and track-record as a leading edge product developer on a conventional fee basis. In return for a negotiated royalty or equity stake we may be prepared to carry out the development of the product and also cover the tooling costs thereby reducing the risk as perceived by potential backers. In the case of a start-up or a small company with a simple single product idea we could make it possible to proceed in the early stages with no other form of backing. We view the risk differently, we know exactly what we can do, we know exactly how long it will take to do the job, and more importantly we know exactly what the project will cost.
